Some years ago I added to my bucket list the goal of starting a fire using one of the most primitive techniques– bow drill and friction. A few weeks ago I woke up on a Saturday and decided to do it. Admittedly, I had ideal conditions (including being at home), but nevertheless I succeeded on my first try.
Check out the video below to see how I built my spindle, bow, baseboard, and bearing block. Now that I know the technique and all the necessary pieces, I have confidence. Next time, I will try to gather the materials and shape the tools in the woods.
I hope you find this video peaceful and enjoyable.
